National Anti-Racism Framework Scoping Report

The Australian Human Rights Commission has published its scoping report for a new National Anti-Racism Framework. The Framework will support the Government-funded Strategy and commitment to tackle racism and promote racial equality in Australia over the next 4 years. Based on consultations and public submissions, the report identifies 3 key themes and 3 priority areas relating to data, education, cultural safety, media regulation, justice, and legal protections. CRIS research has been instrumental in informing this momentous work, and the report draws on several of our projects and publications, including reports on identifying racism data gaps, Asian Australians’ experiences of racism during the pandemic, and barriers to reporting hate incidents and hate crime.  

The report also outlines a process solution to progress existing anti-racism work in Australia. We look forward to seeing the next phase of the Framework take shape, supporting its development and helping to spread the important message about committing to anti-racism.
